# Memory Built for Clarity, Not Closeness

## Five layers of memory, and why each one stops where it does.

Every layer below exists to make the next conversation clearer, never to make Claro feel more like a person who knows you. Here’s what each one actually holds, with the reasoning most products won’t show you.

## Five layers

### 01 This conversation

*In-session attention*

A live picture of the talk you’re having right now: the topic, the fear underneath it, the tension still open. Circle back to something you said ten minutes ago, and Claro is still with the real thread, not just your last sentence.

**Proof moment:** Someone opens on “should I leave this job?” and by the end is sitting with “I’m afraid I’ll regret either choice.” Claro follows that shift instead of parking on the job title.

### 02 Life threads

*Ongoing situations*

A short list of live, unfinished situations: leaving a job, a relationship that won’t settle, a family conflict. A thread can open after a single meaningful session, and it archives itself the moment the situation resolves.

**What it sounds like weeks later:** “Last time you were deciding whether to stay. Where does that sit now?” Oriented, not clingy, and it never drags a resolved chapter back into the room.

### 03 Long-term patterns

*What keeps showing up*

Five kinds only: values, recurring stressors, recurring goals, decision patterns, emotional themes. Nothing is promoted here from a single bad day. Patterns need repeated evidence across separate conversations, and they’re allowed to evolve.

Example: A pattern like “security” can shift over months into “security and autonomy” as more sessions add evidence. Claro updates the pattern instead of just piling on tags.

- Write like: “Concern about disappointing them seems to be showing up again.”
- Not: “You always struggle with this.”

### 04 How you show up

*Character, not personality quiz*

Communication style, how you like to be addressed, the habits and identity facts you’ve actually stated about yourself: used quietly in the background so Claro matches how you think out loud, direct or reflective, short or wandering.

**Where it shows:** First name or none. One-line answers or long unspooling ones. The companion feels like it belongs in your conversation specifically, not a generic “wellness voice.”

### 05 Clarity Cards

*The artifact you keep*

Generated only when a session actually lands: a title that names the shift, the core insight, the themes, and an open question worth sitting with. Memory feeds the card. The card is what you actually see and keep.

## Objections

### Isn’t this just ChatGPT with memory turned on?

ChatGPT memory remembers chat: facts, preferences, trivia. Claro remembers what mattered for thinking: values, open situations, recurring tensions. It doesn’t just recall that you mentioned a job change once; it tracks whether that decision is still open, and turns the session into a Clarity Card instead of a longer transcript.

### Will it get clingy or start acting like a therapist?

Memory is explicitly forbidden from persuasion, guilt, or “you always…” attachment language. It’s built to make conversations clearer, not to make you feel like Claro needs you to come back. There’s no streak counter, no “we miss you” copy.

### What actually happens to my data?

The default is don’t save. Daily trivia, one-off moods, and single-session annoyances are never promoted to memory. Long-term patterns require repeated evidence across sessions before they’re kept at all, and you can view, delete, or reset anything Claro holds at any time, not buried three menus deep.

### Why would I come back if it’s not trying to keep me engaged?

Because a life thread stays open until you resolve it: the job, the relationship, the decision. Not because the product is designed to miss you. The return is about your unfinished situation, not Claro’s retention metrics.

## Your thinking stays yours

See exactly what Claro holds, delete any single memory, or reset everything, all from Profile, not from a support ticket. Nothing here is a GDPR checkbox bolted on after the fact; it’s the same page you’d check to remember what a pattern actually says.
